I've been following silver now for the last four years and the same exact things are still said. It is going to make a big move up, it is valued far too low. Short sellers holding ever increasingly larger short positions, shorting more and more to keep the price down so their short positions don't litteraly destroy them. That the supply of silver is almost non existent. The mint back logging orders and in some cases not even able to take orders. the correlation of gold and silver usually runs much closer than it has this last year or more. The value when done comparing it to inflation should be valued at $100 + an ounce.
All these and more has been said countless times about silver, but still it lays here between the range of $12 and $18 never any real break out or definitive strong lasting trend.
I think silver is good for a store of safety in maintaining value, but think it is a terrible investment unless taking the very very very very long view on it. Like a pure safety valve when the currency is declared worthless by a force de majure by the gov't. If that happens then silver would be worth more and useful as money again. But as long as the dollar has the faith of the people for it value, silver will languish below its real worth.

It amazes me that Assured continues to be recommended. If you have not already, I would suggest reading my SA article on Assured.

http://seekingalpha.com/article/176716-reality-may-prove-painful-for-assured-guaranty-investors

Assured made much smarter bets than MBIA and Ambac (neither of which are truly solvent; they are just pretending to be); however, contrary to popular belief, there is plenty of toxic exposure on Assured's balance sheet. There are pleny of other first lien deals in worse shape than HVMLT 2006-12 (discussed in the article), but this is a good example, because there are also many transactions similar to it. Do you really think Assured will avoid big losses on HVMLT 2006-12? If you want to discuss in more detail, feel free to comment here or e-mail me at mark_alexander_8@yahoo...

New business revenues, at around $600M annualized, are less than 20% of the current market capitalization, and dropping. Not many companies trade at five times sales when sales are dropping.

Hopefully, you are right and I am wrong, becuase it would mean good things for the rest of my portfolio. Good luck in 2010.
