Do you find yourself surfing through a list of websites on a regular basis, looking to see if there is new content posted? A lot of time could be saved by aggregating each individual site into one resource that displays your customized content. This is the idea behind RSS.
The best way to use RSS is through a reader such as google reader or bloglines. Once you are logged into a free reader, you can simply subscribe to the blogs, news services or other content that you regularly visit. Now you will be able to see new content for each of the sites you follow in one place. Try it now by subscribing to ZachStocks.
Below is a screenshot of my google reader setup. You can click on the image to open the full size in a separate window:
If you look on the left side, you can see that I have subscribed to a number of different feeds. There is a prominant button at the top left to add additional subscriptions. The screen is currently set to show just the headlines of each story, but you can adjust the settings to show the entire available story for each feed. In order to see just the items for a particular feed (or a particular category you set up such as “news” or “blogs”) simply click on the appropriate feed on the left and you will see all relevant articles in the main body.
With as much reading as I do, RSS technology saves me quite a bit of time. Hopefully you find it usefull as well, but if you would prefer to simply receive ZachStocks posts via email the button below will work just fine.
